Safeguarding, Confidentiality & Additional Support
Website policy | Draft for publication review | 26 October 2026
At LTAS Therapy, your safety, dignity and privacy matter. Therapy offers a confidential space to explore sensitive experiences, and we aim to approach concerns collaboratively and with care. There are limited circumstances where we may need to act to protect someone or meet a legal obligation.
Who this policy applies to
This statement explains our approach to safeguarding in adult individual and couples therapy provided by Pathos Therapy Ltd trading as LTAS Therapy. We do not provide therapy to children, although information concerning children may arise in adult therapy. Self-guided website tools have separate privacy and safety information.
Confidentiality and when information may be shared
Information shared in therapy is ordinarily confidential. We may disclose limited information where a specific law or valid court order requires it, or where sharing is otherwise legally justified and proportionate to prevent serious harm or protect someone at risk. This may concern domestic abuse, coercion, exploitation, trafficking, safeguarding of children or adults at risk, threats to life, or specific legal duties relating to terrorism or financial crime. Not every disclosure of distress, crime or risk results in reporting.
Where it is appropriate, practicable and safe, we will discuss concerns and possible next steps with you first. In some circumstances, advance discussion may be unsafe or legally inappropriate. We share only what is necessary with an appropriate person or service and document significant decisions. We may consult confidential professional supervision.
Couples therapy and safety
Our couples therapy operates a no-secrets policy for significant matters affecting joint work, but this does not mean information told privately by one partner is automatically passed to the other. Where there is coercion, abuse or risk of retaliation, safety takes priority. We may pause or discontinue joint work and discuss safer support options.
If you need support between sessions
If you need help sooner than your next session, support is available. As we may not be able to reply to messages immediately, please contact a suitable service directly. In England, NHS 111 offers urgent mental health support (select the mental health option). Samaritans can be reached on 116 123, and Mind provides information and routes to local support. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999 or attend A&E. Outside England, use local crisis and emergency services.

Our approach to additional support
Where appropriate, we may discuss a collaborative support plan, GP or specialist referral, local safeguarding services, or trusted contacts. We do not automatically contact a spouse, partner or emergency contact. Any sharing must be justified by the circumstances and applicable law.
Privacy, records and questions
We process safeguarding information under applicable UK data protection law and protect sensitive records. You can ask about our confidentiality arrangements, request our full Privacy Notice or raise concerns at info@ltas.uk. You may also contact the Information Commissioner’s Office at https://ico.org.uk/. For concerns about professional conduct, COSRT provides its complaints procedures at https://www.cosrt.org.uk/.
Important scope note
This policy explains our approach; it is not a promise of continuous availability or a substitute for emergency care. Safeguarding decisions depend on the specific facts, legal obligations and professional responsibilities. The corresponding therapy agreement provides fuller contractual information.
